BANNERS SHINE A LIGHT

Liverpudlian singer-songwriter RAINES floored just about every music blogger in the world with his delicate, devastating debut track, 'Ghosts', earlier this year. The dust has only really just settled, but now he's back, and operating under a fancy new moniker, Banners. 'Shine A Light' stems from Banners' fear of "feeling lost at sea and desperately searching for a beacon of light," but put more plainly, it's a song about being saved from chaos and turmoil by someone who loves you. There's more than a hint of Mumford's arena-straddling folk-rock in the rollicking drums, densely textured woahs and razor-sharp guitar riffs - but as with 'Ghosts', the star of the show remains Banners' powerful yet comforting vocals. A top notch follow up. - DC
